I’ve been meaning to give a shout out to an amazing friend I have and this post is going to be all about her (Dana it’s another praise Dana post! Uh oh!). So the amazing Dana is the first person I met in the blogosphere. This was way back when I was reading blogs, before I decided to publish my novel or start my own blog (for more about how we met visit this post). The first post that I read on her blog made me want to reach out to her because she suffered from the same things as me and in the same way (we have these overactive minds, ha). I was literally amazed and I couldn’t not reach out. And to my surprise, this successful blogger wrote back! And as we became friends I learned so much about her that surprised me. First off Dana is a young, female entrepreneur. And she has been for years (and she’s just newly 29!).
Dana has literally done it all. Check out this resume: She was a very successful profile designer back in Myspace’s hayday (I think she may have even started the trend). She’s since moved on and now creates custom blog designs, she sells cute handmade items, she has a design shop, Envye, where she offers things like photoshop actions, logos, social network icons, blog buttons and pre-made blogger designs. Not only that, she has her own extremely successful lifestyle blog, The Wonder Forest, where she posts about life, creativity, business, inspiration, fashion and even awesome “how to” posts that are useful to bloggers, like introducing you to Bitly, or how to add a Facebook “like” box on your blog/website.
Recently she also published a book, Blog Wonderful, that aims to help you with blogging (established bloggers and newbies alike). When she started her blog, she made a conscious effort to write down the things that did and didn’t work for her and now she’s so popular that she has over 47,000 followers, 6,000 page views per day and a whooping 250K twitter followers. And she accomplished all of this in only about 2 years. Wow, I know.
I really am in awe of Dana’s business savvy. She’s completely self-taught in everything that she does and she has the perseverance to stick with something and make it successful. She’s also very creative, artistic and crafty. She sent me a copy of Blog Wonderful a month or so ago and I was eager to read what information she might have to impart to a relatively new blogger. Some of it, for me, were things I already had an idea about since I’m a writer, such as writing, voice etc, but other things were new to me and useful and there were also things that even though I’m not ready to tackle them yet, I’d like to consider for the future. As an example, some of the things she writes about are gaining followers, making money as a blogger, how to treat other bloggers, how to set goals and more.
I think what I enjoyed most about her book is that it feels like our emails to one another. It’s her tone of voice, the way she writes that makes you feel like a friend and she has some great advice. If you’re a serious blogger I definitely recommend you check out her book and see how some of the methods she used to build her blog could work for you.
Also for those of you who stop by my blog and happen to use Blogger, check out her App BlogGo which is a blogger app for people on the go. Can I just tell you, Dana is seriously amazing, she designs, she creates apps, she writes books and a blog and she has tools to help bloggers. What’s not to like?! Even if you just follow her blog, you will really be inspired by someone who is ridiculously talented. I know she inspired me to be brave and I’ll bet she’ll inspire you too!
