Lemme Hear You Bring the Hype
So once in a while I get to write new-ish articles for work, as I am the “newsletter” guru. Today I had to write an article and I thought…why write this all boring and professional? Why not write it FUN and batshit insane, like I do the blog? (Sometimes when I’m writing blog posts, they start out SUPER boring, like I’ve lost my mojo (what does that stand for??). But eventually, the funny, aside style writing comes out and then that shit flows like buddah (butter, yeah, that)). So…I owned this article. I compared a boring old committee to a dream team of ass-kicking super heroes with a foe to fight! I even name dropped Charlie’s Angels and CHUCK NORRIS!! That’s right. In an article for work. Granted this isn’t an article for the public, it’s an inward focused newsletter for staff, but still….what I did was just shy of revolutionary (eeee! egomaniac!!). And yeah…I don’t wear a suit and tie to work like some stuffy old professional, I’m wearing a leopard print skirt and super cute suede boots, recognize! This self-aggrandizement is basically ego-rific in nature. I’ll stop now (gotta say, giving the ego a hard time is a trip. I love it! My own Ego is like my new arch-nemesis).
Anyway, after I wrote said newsletter article, I shot it off to the people who wanted me to write it with the hopes that they don’t come back and say…yeah nice…ok…whatever, now can you write it boring, no funny business? I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Then our HR partner happened across my office and I read it to her and she was like…FUCK YEA!! Except she didn’t use the F-word in the work place, even though she totally wanted to. But she was so pumped up! Then we got to talking about a meeting we have for all staff and she said…we need to make that meeting WAY more exciting! People are not entertained at all. So then we brain-stormed all kinds of crazy ideas about how to bring the hype to our work force. Like calling out the different departments, like a hype man (or wo-man). A la, “Where my peeps in the Business Service Area! Let’s hear it for our Financial people with the bling bling.” Or “Where are my IT peeps at? Stand up and shout for Windows 8…nawtttt!” Ya know…make it like…fun. Professionalism is so overrated!! Real is where it is…give me a real person and some humor every freaking time and I’ll go with that. That’s how I roll, even at work, ya’ll.
So, my lesson for the day is this…if you can bring some fun to your everyday boring old work day, DO IT!! If you have to write an email, bring out the humor. If you have to talk to a colleague you always have a hard time dealing with…try to bring out a different side of them. Crack a joke, be a hype-man (wo-man). Attend a pep rally at the office to get everyone pumped up about doing the same boring stuff they do every single day! Bring a little TEAM freaking spirit. That’s my wisdom for the day. Or my folly. Don’t tell your frowning boss it was me who told you to crack jokes in the office.
Go Victoria!

Changing things up and bringing the crazy is the only way to make things more interesting at work. Not surprisingly, I’ve been doing the same thing myself. Let’s hear it for sarcasm-soaked e-mails!
